Egadi Islands

The archipelago of the Egadi Islands, set in the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea, host many tourists every year, attracted by the beauty of the sea and that of the mainland.

If the sea offers the excellent characteristics for a dream beach holiday - perfect for water sports enthusiasts, such as snorkelling, sailing and diving, or simply for those who want to experience days on the beach swimming in waters with a thousand shades of blue - the villages are perfect for those who love cultural itineraries and walks surrounded by nature.

Favignana is famous for being the tuna island and for the largest museum dedicated to the sea in all of Europe, the former Florio factory. Levanzo, the smallest of the three islands, is ideal for those who want to get away from the chaos of the big cities and from the routine. Marettimo, the furthest away and probably the most evocative, is famous above all for its sea caves.

To visit the Egadi islands, the ideal is a boat excursion, for more information on ours you can visit the page dedicated to excursions .

Favignana

Favignana is a regenerating island, perfect for those who love to swim in crystal clear and uncontaminated waters, wild nature and warm breathtaking sunsets in which the sky is tinged with a thousand shades. It is ideal for an unhurried journey between white houses completely surrounded by greenery and jagged coasts that once housed the tuff quarries.

Salvatore Fiume in one of his writings called it " the big butterfly on the sea ", due to its shape seen from above. It is dominated by Monte Santa Caterina, above which stands a Saracen fort, the view from this point always leaves everyone speechless. The village is not very large, so it can be easily visited even in a short time, but it offers many cultural attractions.

The main points of interest certainly include Piazza Madrice - where it is possible to visit the church of Santissima Maria Annunziata - and Piazza Europa ; in the latter are the Town Hall and the only monument of the island, the statue dedicated to Ignazio Florio - who was the owner of the famous tuna fishery and guided the island towards development and prosperity.

In the past, the island was known as "the queen of tuna traps", so how can you miss the Ex Stabilimento Florio ? An example of industrial archeology which today houses the archaeological museum where you can relive the island's period of splendor and find out more about the practice of slaughter. The Palazzo Florio stands out for its beauty and importance, the former home of the Florio family, perfect for a dive into the past and more precisely into the nineteenth century. The villa was built with a perfect mix between the neo-Gothic style, used on the outside, and the Art Nouveau style, chosen for the interior furnishings.

Island of Favignana: the most fascinating coves

The real attraction of the island, however, is the sea. The entire coast is bathed by a very clear sea but not all coves are easily accessible. Among the most beautiful and renowned beaches are Cala Rossa, surrounded by tuff quarries and considered one of the most beautiful in the whole region, Cala Azzurra and Bue Marino.

Cala Rossa is a small amphitheater on the sea, nestled among the rocks of the tuff quarries that plunge into a deep blue-toned sea. Here you can enjoy one of the most beautiful landscapes of the whole island, wild and natural. Cala Azzurra is also suitable for families with children, the seabed has a particular color given by the very light sand which in some places takes on pink reflections. Finally, Bue Marino is the most difficult to reach by land and also the one with the deepest seabed.

Favignana is also famous for its caves. One of the most beautiful and unmissable is the Grotta degli Innamorati, which can only be reached by sea and which you enter by swimming. Its name comes from two identical rocks, placed side by side, held in an embrace just like two lovers.

Levanzo

Levanzo catapults you into an ancient atmosphere, it is a wild, romantic, one of a kind place. When you approach the port, you are struck by the bright colors of the fishing boats, cradled by the waves, by the white houses with the doorposts painted blue and the bougainvillea scattered here and there leaving spots of fuchsia.

The village is in miniature, it has very few inhabitants and commercial activities, mostly shops for the purchase of basic necessities. On this island one has the sensation of living totally relaxed, probably generating these emotions is also the fact that there are no cars on the island, except those of the residents. It is the perfect island to escape the daily grind.

Levanzo also holds priceless treasures, even natural ones! Among the three islands it is the oldest and the trace of its ancient history is visible inside the famous Grotta del Genovese, which preserves engravings depicting animal and human figures dating back to the upper Paleolithic. There is no shortage of pictograms that date back to the Neolithic period.

Levanzo Island: the most famous coves

Here too the sea is crystal clear, surrounded by limestone rocks. The coves scattered along the entire coast are small, intimate, immersed in the Mediterranean scrub and some reachable only by sea. Cala Fredda is a pebble and light sand beach, with water so blue that you will feel like you are in a Caribbean paradise.

Cala Minnola, on the other hand, is a cove immersed in a vast pine forest which shelters the beach from the sun during the hottest hours and in which there is an area equipped with benches and tables. Cala Calcara is one of the most inaccessible beaches, to be reached by sea to fully enjoy it. It is surrounded by luxuriant nature and the seabed is a treasure trove of ancient wrecks and artifacts that bear witness to its long history and the passage of various civilizations, offering the best for those who want to snorkel or dive.
